Clearview Geographic LLC is committed to preserving and protecting the natural and cultural resources that define our nation’s heritage. One important tool in this effort is the Antiquities Act of 1906, which provides the legal framework for the protection of significant historic and cultural sites in the United States.
The Antiquities Act gives the President of the United States the authority to designate national monuments on federal lands, in order to protect and preserve important natural, cultural, and historic resources for future generations. This authority has been used to protect some of our nation’s most iconic landscapes, including the Grand Canyon, the Statue of Liberty, and the Great Smoky Mountains.
Since its enactment over a century ago, the Antiquities Act has been used by nearly every president to protect important cultural and historic sites. It has also been the subject of legal challenges and political controversy, with some arguing that it gives too much power to the president to restrict access to public lands.
Despite these challenges, the Antiquities Act remains a critical tool for protecting our nation’s cultural and natural heritage. By designating national monuments, we are able to safeguard unique and irreplaceable resources, ensuring that they will be available for future generations to appreciate and enjoy.
Clearview Geographic LLC is committed to supporting the protection of our nation’s historic and cultural sites, and we encourage everyone to learn more about the Antiquities Act and the important work it enables.
